For My New Friend, Hazel

My Dear Sweet Hazel, I so love the ease with which we communicate and the depth of our conversations that I'm a bit surprised by my failure to mention that I write!

Much of my inspiration comes from the miraculous recovery we've talked about. You know from our chats that western medicine played a crucial role. Medical intervention bought me time, and I needed time for the inner work! We've both been doing it, and I sense you know that true healing cannot occur without it.

The written account of my story evolved slowly through numerous incarnations. The earliest version conferred the potent vibration of a true spiritual initiation. Absolutely certain of its ability to profoundly impact readers, I did my homework and began querying literary agents. Carefully, I crafted each letter to a specific agent who specialized in my genre and waited for a reply before querying the next. Rejections slowly mounted, and three years into the process, there was no one left to query.

Recently, I was decluttering my hard drive and came across a folder containing my rejected letters. Before casting them forever into oblivion with the click of a mouse, I took the time to read each of them, one last time, and was shocked anew by each rejection. Every single letter was absolutely compelling. Why, then, did none of these agents want to represent me?

Now, I believe I know the answer. Every one of them tapped into my unexpressed truth. I didn't fully believe my own story! Despite my miracle, I feared another relapse. How would that play out on book tours? I felt like a fraud.

Longevity has now dispelled that myth. At age 70, I stumbled into the public library in Raton, NM and joined the Accidental Writers' Guild. There, I dusted off my old manuscripts and reinvented the story. I'm not quite sure what I'll do with it. The drive to find an agent/publisher has vanished without a trace, and I've learned from experience that self-publishing without a marketing budget is a colossal waste of time. Still, I believe it has the power to help - especially people with limited or no access to medical care - so, for now, I'm just giving it away to anyone who wants to read it. I hope you'll want to. It's a fast, fun, easy read. Click the link below for a complimentary pdf copy.
